Outcasts

This movie is the adventure of a motley crew of misfits, each of whom has their own disability or physical deformity. One is a little person, another has no legs (and has an interesting and quick way of getting in and out of a car), another has lost her arm below the elbow.

These Outcasts of the title go around in a clapped out old banger and kidnap Luke Mathers, a musician visiting one of the Outcasts in hospital ("You've got a beautiful soul", he coos empathetically). Anyway, he's stuffed into the boot and driven off, none-too-pleased about it ("I've been kidnapped by fucking spastics!"). During all this, one of our protagonists falls for him, and we share their drama as the group as a whole tries to decide what to do with him.

For most of the movie each of these disabilities is placed front and centre and comically juxtaposed with their circumstances. Such as the escape from the hospital and eating in a rather posh restaurant.

The scripting and performances are well-judged and Ian Clark keeps things running like clockwork. The finale brings everything to a screeching halt, just as it was digging its hooks into me.
